The Gift of Limits
You are not meant to do it all.
We live in a world that tells us limits are obstacles to be overcome. If you are tired, drink more coffee. If you are out of time, sleep less. We push our bodies, our minds, and our schedules to the absolute edge, convinced that being limitless is the goal. But God did not design us to be limitless.
When God created the world, He established rhythms of evening and morning, work and rest. He set boundaries on the ocean and seasons for the earth. Limits are not a punishment for being human; they are a feature of our design. When we honor our need for rest, we are honoring the God who made us fragile and dependent on purpose.
The Sabbath is a weekly reminder that we cannot do it all, and that is okay. It is a day to lay down the illusion of control and admit that the world will keep spinning without our constant effort. We do not have to be God. We can just be human.
A small step for this weekend: pick one task you planned to do on Saturday, such as folding laundry, answering emails, or running an errand, and explicitly decide to leave it undone until Monday. Let the unfinished task be a reminder that your worth does not depend on your productivity.
May your Sabbath be a place where you can safely exhale. May you find peace in your limits and rest in the hands of the One who holds it all together.
